Abigail Detmers, Human Resources Manager
Abigail Detmers, ANPI’s Human Resources Manager, recently finalized her certification for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) title. Abby passed the PHR exam in December 2006. Over the past two years, she gained necessary work experience and training to finalize her certification and receive the PHR title effective November 2008. The certification, awarded by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI), signifies that those who are certified possess the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the body of knowledge in the field.
“Certification as a human resource professional clearly demonstrates a commitment to personal excellence and to the human resource profession,” said Mary Power, CAE, Executive Director of the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).
To become certified, an applicant must pass a comprehensive examination and demonstrate a strong background of professional human resource experience. The HR Certification Institute is the credentialing body for human resource professionals and is affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest organization dedicated exclusively to the human resource profession. The Institute’s purpose is to promote the establishment of professional standards and to recognize professionals who meet those standards.
“The PHR certification is such a wonderful opportunity for HR professionals and for organizations,” said Detmers. She continues, “Certification not only helps to reinforce a foundation of HR management, but forces HR professionals to be aware and knowledgeable of all aspects of human resources and on top of changes in order to recertify. It takes quite a bit of work, but earning and maintaining a PHR certification is an honor and reflects an HR professional’s expertise in the field and commitment to human resources.”
As stated on the HRCI website, there are a total of 96,367 PHR certified professionals in the US, with 2,894 PHR certified in Illinois.
